Hello! I have one bedroom available for rent in a fabulous tri-level home in the Laurel district of Oakland. The bedroom for rent is on the ground level with its own private entrance from the side of the house. It has three windows which allow for a lot of light. The room is carpeted with exception of the toilet room; it has its own private toilet and a sink in a separate area. There are stairs going up to the main floor for the shower and communal areas. The room dimensions are 27 X16 (432 sq ft.). It has a well designed small closet that includes under the stairs storage space. The room is painted in bold yellow and blue which adds a lot of personality :-) You are welcome to paint the bedroom if you want. The main floor bathroom is a four piece bathroom-sink, toilet, bathtub, and rain showerhead. This bathroom is shared with the two lower bedrooms- specifically the shower facilities- as well as with other visitors to the house. The house is a bit over 1900 square feet with fabulous outdoor living in the backyard. The kitchen has recently been upgraded with fresh paint on the cabinets (lots of cabinet space), black granite countertops, excellent appliances including gas stove. The refrigerator has an ice maker in the freezer and ample storage in the fridge department. The main floor has an open floor plan with the living room and dining room being one open space; there is a functioning fireplace in the living room. The laundry room is right off of the kitchen with a front loading washer and dryer. The house has new central heating and a/c (The a/c is not often needed given the great crosswinds from all the windows). There is a new water heater that provides ample hot water. The main floor is pretty much furnished with living room seating, smart TV, entertainment stand, and dining room with seating for six people. The kitchen currently does not have a kitchen table. Both bedrooms are being rented unfurnished. The gardens are communal space for all who live in the house. The backyard has a pergola, hammock, outdoor dining, and grill. There is a small "grass" patch and various vegetables and fruits growing. There are many fruit trees, two persimmon trees, an apple tree, plum tree, fig tree, and Meyer's lemon tree. The front yard has an apricot tree as well as a mandarin orange tree and pomegranate tree. There is a single car garage available for rent as well for $150. You: I am looking for a roommate who is an animal lover, social justice conscious, flexible communicators, keen on recycling, composting, and conservation. I seek a roommate who is female/female identified, LGBTQ/allies, environmentally conscious, liberal minded, mindful, and honest. I would like you to be mature, responsible, friendly, respectful, and totally in with maintaining a clean fun happy home. I want everyone to participate in a chore calendar where the communal spaces are cleaned/kept clean. Your space is yours; I just ask that your space is kept free of garbage and food/dirty plates. Me: My name is Susan and I am a cis-gendered queer female. I totally LOVE this house and the neighborhood (my living space is on the second floor of the house). I work as a legal advocate for a non profit organization and as a private practice attorney in estate planning from home. I am also the chair of a Latinx Deaf statewide organization. Living with me/us are three animals. . .although they would disagree about being animals. . .Dinky is my 11 year old service dog; Gussie is 7 years old and very shy. She is a chihuahua-dachshund mix. Mijo is the youngest of the brood- an almost one year old black cat. They are a great pack. Dinky and Gussie can be very talkative but they are loving. Mijo very much loves being with people. The neighborhood is great. The house is 1.5 blocks from MacArthur where there are a number of shops, restaurants/cafes, Goodwill, 24 hour fitness, yoga/pilates shops, and little Joe's (of Farmer Joe's). It is one bus line (54) from Fruitvale BART that is about a 10-12 minute ride along 35th avenue. Freeways 580 and 13 are just around the corner; 880 is down the road about 15 minutes away. There are multiple bus lines on MacArthur including direct buses to SF and downtown Oakland. There is a community carpool pick up spot on MacArthur and High street for those heading to SF during the week. Fruitvale Avenue is less than one mile with more shops, cafes, and the big Farmer Joe's. Rent includes water, pge, and garbage as well as WiFi. Move in cost would be first month's rent and a security deposit of $1500. Move in date can be any time after November 15, 2017 or December 01, 2017. Lease would be for six months with an option to become yearly; this would allow us to get a sense of if we are a good fit as roommates. You will need to complete an application, have a good credit rating (will run a credit report), and provide a proof of income.
