We work from home, enjoy meeting people and are well-travelled and multi-lingual - speaking English, Japanese, French, Italian and German between us. Digby enjoys ski touring, wind surfing and playing jazz piano; Mary enjoys yoga, cooking and gardening. Both of us love music of all kinds and mountain walking. We'd like to share our good knowledge of the walks and the ski area and can recommend local equipment hire too.
We live in a quiet but easily accessible hamlet in the Giffre valley in the centre of an Alpine nature reserve. Nearby is the 420km Grand Massif ski area & its famous 14km Piste de Cascades! We are close to the magnificent 'Grand Site de France' of the Fer-a-Cheval in one of the most beautiful, well-preserved villages in France. There are opportunities for fantastic winter sports for all tastes - skiing, ski touring, cross country, raquette walking - and alpine walks amongst the flowers in spring and summer. You may even see marmots, chamois, ibex or the pair of gypaetes (lammergeier) who nest on a nearby peak . There are gentle walks along the River Giffre or more challenging white water rafting through the Gorge de Tines, rock climbing or braving the dizzy heights of the famous Via Ferrata,
The chalet has a large garden with a table on the terrace looking onto the mountains. It might be possible to borrow a bicycle to ride into nearby Samoens (about 3km) where there are lots of bars, cafés and restaurants.
