The approach to Drayton Gardens VI, through the elegant streets of South Kensington, is sure to raise expectations. And crossing the threshold here won’t disappoint, but surprise. In contrast to its sleek city surroundings, this home is picturesque and pretty. The clean lines of classic furniture contrast with plump patterned cushions, and pastoral hues – from creamy yellow to palest fawn – colour each wall. Outside there’s a courtyard, green and pleasant as any village garden, and it’s a sweet space for a glass of wine after dinner, or simply soaking up the sun.
Your host spends most of her time in Mexico City, but likes to visit her native London regularly. When in the UK, she enjoys nothing more than an afternoon spent in this home’s garden.
Hearth and home
It’s easy to wile away the hours in South Kensington. Whether it’s the bustle of central London’s museums or the buzz of Chelsea’s shops and restaurants that appeal, it’s all close to home here. But step onto the soft carpets of Drayton Gardens VI and it’s as though the city streets are much further away.
Comfort is key, and to make sure of it there’s a spick-and-span kitchen and two contemporary bathrooms, one with a dreamily deep bathtub. And then there’s the sitting room’s fireside sofa, surely the snuggest spot to revive after an eventful day.
