The Rookery is a two storey cottage situated at the end of a quiet cul de sac on the very edge of the serpentine national park in the old timber town of Jarrahdale.
The accommodation can sleep up to 6 people, is suitable for children, but the access is not suitable for the wheelchair bound.
Approaching the Rookery the first thing you will notice is it’s proximity to the national park, which borders the property on two sides. There is a gravel standing, which can easily take 3-4 cars. There is also storage for bicycles.
You enter the property up a short flight of wooden steps to the veranda which surrounds the house on three sides. Going through the front door the first thing that strikes you is the modern wood burner, which heats the living areas. The lounge dinning area, can comfortably seat six people for a social meal, or to sit and admire the forest, and observe the unique Australian wild life.
In the summer you can open open the sliding door and relax on the veranda, overlooking the garden or the forest, on which there are a pair of three seater sofa’s and an area for alfresco eating with a bar-b-que, work top & sink with hot and cold water for food preparation.
Adjacent to the dining area there is a small, but fully equipped kitchen, with all the modern appliances you could need, including a dishwasher, microwave, toaster, sandwich toaster, bread maker. An ironing board, iron and hairdryer are also provided.
On the ground floor there is a king size bedroom, with sliding doors opening on to the veranda and a shower room with basin & w.c.
Making your way upstairs you come to a TV area, off which there is 1 queen bedroom, complete with on-suite with a bath with built in jacuzzi, separate shower, hand basin & w.c. Both rooms have small balcony’s over looking the garden. There is also a third double bedroom with an apex roof and balcony.
On arrival you will find a welcome hamper complete with a bottle of local wine, home grown or locally sourced seasonal fruit and vegetables, ingredient to cook yourselves a delicious breakfast, tea & coffee, and in the cooler months a supply of wood for the fire. In summer you can use the air conditioning and fans to keep the house cool.
The Rookery is the perfect place to stay while you explore Jarrahdale, The Serpentine National Park and the surrounding area. The Jarrahdale, Tavern, Heritage Post Office and general stores are all within a 5 minute walk. The Millbrook Winery, with its selection of wines and first class restaurant is either a slightly longer walk (3km) or a very short drive.
This is the ideal location for a couple after a quiet getaway, or an active family who like their walking and cycling. The Rookery is close the Mundbiddie cycling trail, and there are a range of local walks.
